What is a Blog?

Few definitions of a Blog:


In simple words, a blog is a type of web site which is usually maintained by an individual that is available on the web space.


A blog is a voice on the web.


Its presence is on web space to share, inform, exchange views, complain and enquire.


In simplest terms, a blog is basically an online journal or diary of your feelings and thoughts on the web. 


A blog digitally records about anything you want people to read and share with them.

In short, the meaning of blogging is to maintain or add content to a blog.


A Blog is:

               In blog, entries usually appear in reverse chronological order and therefore, new post shows up at the top.

So your readers read what is new, then they comment on it or link to it.


You can allow your readers to add their own comments and feedback.


You have also the rights to disapprove or approve the comment of readers before publishing readers’ comments on your blog. It is useful because you can prevent the objectionable comments to publish on your blog.


What is frequency of writing a blog?

In blog, you write and update your posts on an ongoing basis.

Frequency of writing in a blog can be hourly, daily, weekly or less frequently but daily updates are typical.


What is meaning of a blogger and blogging?

An individual who writes and keeps a blog is called a blogger.

The process of updating a blog is called blogging.


What is written in a blog?

A typical blog combines text, images, videos and links to other blogs.

You can add an audio to your blog, which is called podcasting.


Most blogs are primarily textual, although some focus on photographs (photo blog), art (art blog), videos (video blogging), music (MP3 blog) and audio (podcasting).


Of the many topics written by bloggers, perhaps the best ones are personal, business, health, travel, political, fashion, beauty, fitness, finance, niche etc.

Evolution of a blog:

The term “weblog” was invented by Jorn Barger on 17th December, 1997. The short form, “blog” was given by Peter Merholz. He is credited with coining the term blog.

Peter Merholz jokingly broke the word “weblog” into the phrase as “we blog”.

Shortly thereafter, Evan Williams at Pyra Labs used “blog” as both noun and verb that is to blog means to edit weblog or to post to weblog. The term was soon popularized.

Who is the founder of Blogger?

Pyra Labs was the company that created the Blogger service in 1999.

It was acquired by Google in 2003.


Evan Clark Williams (born on 31.03.1972), an American technological entrepreneur, who is the co-founder of several technology companies, most importantly Twitter.


Earlier he was also the Chairman & CEO of Twitter.


He also founded Blogger.
